vcredist_x86.exe cannot be found

I'm receiving the following error that prevents MATLAB R2010a (x64) from starting:
========= Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2010a\bin\win32\vcredist_x86.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. =========
I have noticed that it happens when Windows Update detects that there are updates available for Windows. I doesn't install them, just detects that they exists.
The running instances of matlab continue running without any error but I cannot start further instances. Even if I quit from all the running Matlab instances and try to start a new instance the error persist. The only way around this I found is to restart the computer. However, I am fed up of that. WTF is going on here?
I'm using Windows 7 Pro x64

Just an update. The initial error that appears is this:
---------------- ERROR: Can't check VCRTs (line:793) System Error:2, The system cannot find the file specified. Installing required run-time libraries. This may take a few minutes... ----------------
Then it tries to execute C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2010a\bin\win32\vcredist_x86.exe and it does not find it and shows the error I reported initially.
If I copy vcredist_x86.exe from the Windows SDK folder to C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2010a\bin\win32\, it is executed and then matlab still fails to start
