Appdesigner color scheme not working

I am not sure if there is a setting that I am missing, but when I changed the color scheme in Preferences under Colors, the appdesigner background color and code is not changing with it (it should be black and white, respectively). I can see that some of the color scheme was changed to be similar to the Matlab Editor, like the comments (green) and the string (purple), and the keywords (blue), but the background and the code are not changing.
You can see this in the picture attached, which shows the appdesigner Code Editor in the upper left, the Matlab Editor in the lower right, and the my preferences on top of everything. Not sure what is wrong, but any help is appreciated. I am using 2023b, if that makes a difference.
Edit: I do not think the color changes are applied to the appdesigner at all, so what I wrote above "I can see that some of the color scheme was changed to be similar to the Matlab Editor, like the comments (green) and the string (purple), and the keywords (blue)..." should be crossed out (not really sure how to that here). If you compare the Keywords color, the blue is slightly different in the sample vs in the appdesigner picture.

Honestly, I have been avoiding appdesigner for a while. My work flow has been to create the layout and callbacks in appdesigner, then copied those changes to a corresponding m file, and do my code edits in there. However, we have a new engineer who forogt to save his app designer changes, and had to redo a whole bunch of things, which messed up the work flow altogether.
So the resolution is to do all codes edits in appdesigner from now on, which I don't like... So, I need to set my app designer background to dark mode before my eyes fall out staring at the white screen all day.
... just a little gripe I have about appdesigner.
Oh yeah, and app designer code changes don't show up in git, which sucks.
