reduce number of points in activecontour?

2 views (last 30 days)
I am using the activecontour function and getting a mask back. Then, I want to use bwboundaries to extract the coordinates, and that works well too. However, I'm getting too many points, and would like to have less (it's ok if the contour will be less smooth as a result). But I cannot find how do I do that, assuming I use the Chan-Vese method, and not 'Edge' (meaning, I can't use SmoothFactor property).

You might be able to make use of reducepatch()
It might also be suitable to do spline interpolation. Or you might be able to use the interparc File Exchange contribution (which uses spline interpolation in some cases.)

I tried reducepatch but I found that it generated a lot of triangles. Perhaps if I had used boundary() (an active contour) on the vertices after that...

Well yeah that's what happened to me too. I just re-organized the vertices using their arctan, compared to the centroid of the polygon
