Question posted as answer by Samuel Martinet:
I have Sierra .13. (it's a very recent version).
Matlab trial version requires Sierra .16 (this is perhaps the last version).
I can't install Sierra .16 on my machine (due to HD constraint: It s a macbook air).
So I cannot try Matlab.
Is there a way to overcome this issue?

The current version supports MacOS High Sierra (.13), Mojave (.14) and Catalina (.15), but not Sierra (.12) . If you do have .13, which is High Sierra, then you can use it with R2019b. (I am using that combination myself.)
