In electron cryomicroscopy (cryo-EM) protein molecules embedded in vitreous ice are imaged with an electron microscope. The function SolventAndProteinDensity() models the 3D electron-scattering density of a protein. The special feature is that a continuum model of the surrounding water (ice) is automatically included, which makes the simulation much more realistic. DemoSolvatedMap.m is an example driver script. Please write fsigworth@gmail.com to receive a preprint of a paper describing the algorithm.
