Dr. John Kearns earned a PhD in mechanical engineering from Monash University in 2024 for his research investigating the fluid mechanics within the human left ventricle. The objectives of John's research is to improve the collective understanding of the physiological function of healthful intraventricular haemodynamics and to use that understanding to develop new diagnostic techniques. John's work utilises two complementary modes of analysis. John analyses in vivo velocity fields measured with "4D Flow" cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. John also uses anatomical CMR images to construct computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models of subject-specific left ventricles.
