Accelerating the Pace of Engineering and Science

We at MathWorks believe in the importance of engineers and scientists.
They increase human knowledge and profoundly improve our standard of living.

We created MATLAB and Simulink to help them do their best work.

MATLAB® is the easiest and most productive computing environment for engineers and scientists. With math, graphics, and programming, it’s designed for the way you think and the work you do.

Simulink® is a block diagram environment for simulation and Model-Based Design of multidomain and embedded engineering systems. Explore, test, and implement designs you wouldn’t otherwise consider – in a fraction of the time it would take you to write C, C++, or HDL code.

Working at MathWorks

Every MathWorker brings a unique background and perspective, but we share a set of core values.
These values help create the vibrant and rational workplace that nurtures our growth as individuals and as an organization.

Our purpose is to change the world by accelerating the pace of discovery, innovation, development, and learning in engineering and science. Our guiding principle is “do the right thing”, which means doing what is best for our staff members, customers, business partners and communities for the long term, and believing that “right” answers exist.

Core Values

We believe in continuous improvement and the pursuit of excellence, respecting and investing in each other, a rational workplace, learning and self-improvement, and credibility and integrity.

Social Mission

We actively support our local and professional communities through initiatives that advance STEM education, foster staff volunteerism, build environmental sustainability, and aid global relief efforts.

Decarbonizing MathWorks

MathWorks is committed to protecting and restoring Earth’s resources. We focus our efforts in three key areas—operations, partnerships, and products—and will report annually on our progress.

Our History

MathWorks was founded in 1984 by Jack Little and Cleve Moler, who recognized the need among engineers and scientists for more powerful and productive computation environments beyond those provided by languages such as Fortran and C. They combined their expertise in mathematics, engineering, and computer science to develop MATLAB.
