Why do I get "TMW_ARCHIVE checkout failed" when installing pre-R2008a MATLAB with new passcodes?

I am installing pre-R2008a MATLAB under Unix, Linux, or Mac, and using the R2008a license.dat file. When I select next after inputting my license information, I get an error which looks like "TMW_ARCHIVE checkout failed". Upon checking the license.dat file, this line is missing.

For MATLAB releases prior to R2008a, the Unix/Linux/Mac license file included an INCREMENT line for TMW_ARCHIVE, which was used to determine what products to install. As of R2008a, the file installation key is used to determine this on all operating systems, and the TMW_ARCHIVE line is no longer in the license.dat file. We recommend using the pre-R2008a license file for installation of pre-R2008a MATLAB versions. However, you can also copy the TMW_ARCHIVE line from your older license.dat file and place it at the top of your newly generated license.dat if you wish to use the new license file for installation.
