please help me how to enter a matrix of numbers and word like a= ab cd ef 1 2 3 4 55 6 and i want to use the number in it like >>a(2,3)+2 =5

Use cell array

a={'ab'    'cd'    'ef'
     1      2      3
     4       55   6}
a{2,3}+2
