Segmentation in simulink, Is it right trying to do ??

Hi image processing experts out there, I am trying build the segmentation blocks in simulink. Is it a good idea or just waste of time bcoz there are already codes in MATLAB available, but these codes are not able to be implemented in hardware, so I took up this as my final semester project ? Am I doing it roght or not??
