contour plot over surface plot export, lines disappear

I have been trying to export a figure into bmp or tif or any other format. The figure is a surface plot with contour lines overlaid on it. The problem is when I export it the contour lines (but not the labels) disappear. I already tried the export_fig and it has the same effect.
