I have been having some problems with Matlab R2013a, it used to work fine but recently it was having trouble using some of the toolboxes : I attempted to see if Windows could solve the trouble by right clicking the Matlab icon and selecting "Troubleshoot Compatibility" - ever since then I cannot open Matlab and have found the following error:
- # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x0000000077ba08c5, pid=4084, tid=4704 # # JRE version: 6.0_17-b04 # Java VM: Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM (14.3-b01 mixed mode windows-amd64 ) # Problematic frame: # C [ntdll.dll+0x508c5] # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp #
I have tried completely unistalling Matlab and reinstalling it but it has not solved the problem
Any ideas?

There may be a problem with your Java installation.
You can download Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jdk-6u17-oth-JPR
The file that you want is “jre-6u17-windows-x64.exe”. This version is compatible with MATLAB R2013a.
If that does not work, you could also try uninstalling both MATLAB and Java, and then reinstalling MATLAB.
