Introduction to Neural Networks Using Matlab 6.0

I want to buy the above mentioned book: Introduction to Neural Networks Using Matlab 6.0.
I guess i need Matlab 6 for studying it. I'm not a student and probably the software is very expensive. Do i really need the software to study the subject or i can learn it without Matlab 6?

Very difficult to learn it well without the software.
If you are going to buy a book, buy the latest version.
You can also probably find the latest version in the library.
