performing fourier transform an plotting magnitude and phase spectrum

hello people ! i am a student and new to matlab .... can any one help me how to perform the fourier transform on a signal and plot the magnitude spectrum in freq domain ..... please consider i.)f=exp(-2x); as an example for my convenience ........ thanks in advance
