Error installing MATLAB engine for Python

26 views (last 30 days)
I was using MATLAB R2021b engine for Python 3.9 on macOS Monterey 12.4 and everything was working fine.
However, I recently upgraded to MATLAB R2022a and now I am unable to install the MATLAB engine for Python properly.
But when I try to do the following step:
cd (fullfile(matlabroot,'extern','engines','python'))
system('python setup.py install')
I get the error
zsh:1: command not found: python
ans =
127
What does this mean? How can I resolve it? I didn't run into this issue while using previous versions of MATLAB.

I understand, you are using MATLAB R2022a and are facing "command not found: python" while trying to install MATLAB Engine API for Python. This error usually happens if your system does not have a supported version of Python for R2022a, or if the Python interpreter folder is not added to path.
Kindly follow the steps under "Verify Your Configuration" in the below link, before proceeding with the installation.
