Extract features of transient signal using wavelet

Hi. I would like to do features extraction of a transient signal (acquired from starting-up an electrical appliance) by using wavelet. Suppose I use power consumption data as the interested feature, is there any guide for MATLAB code to extract the features data from a sample of transient signal interval?
