Dashed lines in 2014b look much worse than previous version

I recently had to change to 2014b, and like some others I am having issues with plotted figures.
I am trying to understand how to plot certain figures which have dashed and dotted lines similar to how they displayed in previous versions (2012b and earlier). When I open the figure file to make some other changes and resave them, the dashed lines appear almost jagged/irregular - onscreen, this is not just in the exported version.
For example (both version are the same figure file, slightly cropped, and either saved to a jpg directly from the onscreen version (2014b) or using export_fig (2012b)). I can't recreate the 2012b with a direct onscreen export as I no longer have an active copy of it, however the export fig version for 2014b is roughly the same as the onscreen version:
old version (2012b)
new version (2014b):
Is there a way around this? I've been searching around and while I've seen comments about problems with vector formats and other issues, I've found nothing directly about this. I do have hardware opengl, running this on a P34G-V2 (GTX 680M), could it be a graphics issue on this end or is it something internal to the new way Matlab is handling graphics objects?
Thanks!

Hi Shawn,
Do you have a snippet of data and how you are setting up the plot? If I can reproduce it maybe I can help.
