Matlab using up computer memory

I am working with large datasets in Matlab 2022a, on MacOS Monterey 12.2.1.
Each time I run Matlab, my memory goes down, even though I haven't added anything else to my computer. It's now down from ~ 150 GB to ~ 40 GB, and I can no longer run my code in Matlab, as the memory goes down as I try to load the large variable, until Matlab crashes.
It seems like maybe, that memory in my computer has been used each time I run Matlab, and that there is memory that hasn't been freed when quitting the application? How can I check/resolve this?
Thanks,
Louise

Did you try to move all your script in another folder?
in this case matlab will not load all of your (past) programs that maybe you don't need anymore.

Are your MATLAB programs writing out any data that you don't really need it to? For example are you processing video frames but you're saving each frame out to disk? So maybe you have some temproary files that you can delete because you don't need them anymore.
