Do I need to deactive MATLAB before moving from 32-bit Ubuntu to 64-bit Ubuntu?

1 view (last 30 days)
Hello,
On my 32-bit machine, I have a 32-bit version MATLAB installed.
I would like to know, if I install a 64-bit Ubuntu Linux system on this machine, could I still use my 32-bit MATLAB licience on this box? Should I deactive MATLAB lience before upgrading OS from 32-bit to 64-bit?
Looking forwards to your advice,
Regards.

If the system will be wiped clean and all your old 32 bit stuff destroyed, then I would. Anyway, it can't hurt and it's easy to do.

I am afraid that I cannot use MATLAB anymore on 64-bit OS, with only a MATLAB 32-bit valid licence.

That's strange. With my license, I can have either, or both. I have both 32 and 64 bit installed at the same time. Maybe if you have some kind of limited license, like a student license, you can't do that. I'd contact them and ask them.

MATLAB licenses are keyed to the hostid but not to the operating system, unless perhaps there was some oddities in some of the student versions some years ago.
Sometimes changing operating systems on the same computer ends up changing the hostid, especially on systems with multiple ethernet interfaces.
