I don't see any trees. It looks all white to me. Where is a tree, any tree?

Looks like the double action picture upload claimed another victim

Ana - in order to attach your image you must first choose the file and then press the Attach File button.

Ana Li:
I've inserted the image with the green and brown frame icon so that it's immediately visible here without people having to use something like Photoshop to open the file, which is what they have to do if you use the paper clip icon instead of the green and brown frame icon.

There is no such tree counting capability in MATLAB. There's "tree bagging" but that's s completely different concept. So that means you'll have to build up your tree counting application from other lower level routines in the Image Processing and/or Computer Vision System Toolbox. However all is not lost. There are algorithms that have been published. See section "22.5.8 Trees, Individual Trees, Tree Crowns" here in Vision Bib
22.5.8 Trees, Individual Trees, Tree Crowns
22.5.8.1 Trees, Forest, Stem Volume, Biomass Measurements
22.5.8.2 Forest Extraction, Forest Analysis
22.5.8.2.1 Forest Analysis, Depth, LiDAR, Laser Scanner, IFSAR
22.5.8.3 Forest Fire Evaluation, Wildfire Analysis, Fire Detection, Fire Damage Assessment
22.5.8.4 Forest Change Evaluation, Change Detection, Temporal Analysis
Drill down to get citations for specific papers. Then pick one and code it up in MATLAB.

No, sorry. As interesting as it might be, I've got my day job leading image analysis for one of the world's largest companies so I just don't have the time for in-depth development of non-work-related projects. Good luck though.

I haven't used it because I don't have that toolbox. Is that what you found one of the papers used? Dima is here and I think he's on the Computer Vision toolbox team, so post a new question with a subject line saying something about using sift to find trees in an orchard, and list the product as the Computer Vision System Toolbox and he might answer.

Depending on the level of involvement needed by the professional person, you could call technical support (for something that takes just a few minutes) or you could hire the Mathworks consulting folks (for a job that takes a day or more). Normally we don't tag with someone's specific name. I think Dima will see it as I think he looks over all the Computer Vision posts though it might take a day or two.
