I have MATLAB 2014a, and I was wondering if it would be compatible with the new Mac operating system El Capitan. Last year when I upgraded to OS X Yosemite, my MATLAB 2012 didn't work and I needed to buy 2014. I would like to know if MATLAB 2014 will work before I upgrade my operating system.

I upgraded to El Capitan as well but my Matlab ceased to function well ever since.

Vinous - please clarify what you mean by my Matlab ceased to function well ever since. What is the behaviour that you are observing? What version of MATLAB are you using?
I installed 10.11 (from 10.9) and am using MATLAB 2014a and so had to apply the fix that Walter references in his answer.

El Capitan is not due to be released until tomorrow, September 30, 2015, so it is a bit early for anyone to have any experience with this.
R2014a was not officially supported on OS-X Yosemite but R2014b was supported.
As for older versions with El Capitan: too early to say. They might need the same kinds of adjustments as described in the above link.

Can anyone confirm if the work-around describe above works for Matlab 2012b on OSX El Capitan?

So, this is no longer to early to tell. What versions of Matlab do work on El Capitan? 2010? 2012? 2015?
Thanks
