R2010a: publish -> Why such commands exist at all, when they are useless ?

Hallo there,

Im experiencing many nasty problems with the publish command. It allows little control, I have to rewrite it in order to avoid the unclear error messages, and on top of that it is not supported by the MATLAB compiler.

Why such commands exist at all, if they are useless in general?

How do you make reports ? (html, MS Word, Pdf)

the publish function is mainly for publishing code. The "not supported by the MATLAB compiler" suggests that you want to use it differently? What kind of reports do you want to create? It might be that the Report Generator is more what you need ...

The Report Generator costs additional money.

I want to create reports with matlab results.

Perhaps it would be suitable to write the data out in XML format, with reference to a style sheet, and then view it in a browser?

Well, the most important of all formats I need, is a MS Word. So, xml is not suitable.
