Does anyone else have the experience of Matlab crashing continually? It has been like this since the beginning of using this program, years ago... I am so tired of losing data and man-days of analysis because of buggy software....

It seems to have something to do with Java lately, but it wasn't initially. Seems to always be something that creates a spinning ball. :(

I pretty much only close MATLAB when I need to reboot or I need the memory back to run a different package that tends to run away with memory.
According to my crashlogs, I have not had a MATLAB crash since June 9, 2015, and the one before that was December 18, 2013, at which time I was running R2013b (I have been running R2014a since the following spring.)
I probably got a Java null pointer error when I upgraded to OS-X Yosemite and then went to reinstall MATLAB, which was a known issue soon repaired.
My use of MATLAB is probably different than yours; I mostly do small algorithms development and test what I am writing in response to Questions here, rather than making heavy use of MATLAB computation. And I do not have any toolboxes or external devices to interface with.
