I am using the watershed filter to segment the image, but I cannot get enough regions. What can I do to improve the regions I am getting?

Here is the code I am using: g2 is my mask.
se = strel('disk',1);
gr=sqrt(imfilter(Hr,h,'replicate').^2+ imfilter(Hr,h','replicate').^2);
g2=imclose(imopen(gr,se),se);
L2=watershed(g2);

If you have R2016a, you can use the superpixels function to obtain the oversegmentation instead of using watershed.
