roipoly imshow - big images

I want to use roipoly on an image 800 x 35000 pixels. The image displayed using imagesc is good enough for my application. However, when it is displayed by imshow as part of the roipoly funciton: - the image axes are too scale meaning that I cannot see the detail I can with imagesc. - I get a warning saying that image is too big to fit on screen. Displaying at 4%

Are there workarounds that allow me to deal with my large image?
