Trouble WIth Kerning Copying Figures to Word

Has anyone else experienced problems with copying figures to word? Text spacing is a problem for both legends and axis labels. Any known fixes?

Is this definitely a kerning problem, or is it more generally a proportional-spaced-font problem?

Copying/exporting figures in MATLAB is a nightmare. Use export_fig from the FEX.

Thanks, that is pretty slick, at least for exporting to PDF. In general, I am trying to automatically copy figures into a word document (it could be a PDF too, I'm just used to word). I use a version of the save2word file from the FEX, which you might be familiar with. Is there a good way to get these cleanly exported figures all together?
