Matlab is starting with no GUI (linux). I would like a GUI.

Hello --
I am trying to start matlab from the command line in linux. I just use a "matlab" symlink to run /usr/local/MATLAB/R2015b/bin/matlab. This starts headless matlab. I am NOT putting in "-nodisplay" or "-nodesktop". I actually do want the GUI and have had that run by default previously.
Any tips?
Thank you, Mike

matlab looks in these folders for the first occurrence of .matlab7rc.sh in the following order:
- Current folder
- Home folder ($HOME)
- matlabroot/bin folder
To edit the .matlab7rc.sh file, use the template located in the matlabroot/bin folder.
