Transcendental Equation
Show older comments
Dear all,
Here is another transcendental equation I am trying to solve using 'solve': syms a b c d x y
[m]=solve((a-((x+b*x)/c)-(p*(exp((x+b*y)/(d))-1))-(q*(exp((x+b*y)/(2*d))-1)))-y, y)
And I get the following result:
Warning: Explicit solution could not be found. > In solve at 81
m =
[ empty sym ]
================================
Any help to solve this would be appreciated.
Thank you

Like most transcendental equation, there is no explicit solution.
Also, as is not uncommon, for arbitrary choices of coefficients, there are multiple imaginary solutions, with the exact number not easily found, and possibly variable with x. In my experience the discovery of the solutions can vary with the precision that one carries out the operations, with some of the solutions found at low precision turning out to be spurious and some of the solutions not appearing until higher precision.
