Hello, I've tried all the suggestions to address pathdef issues from others and haven't been successful. When I went from 2012a to 2017a, I get the first warning when I start as: "Warning: Directory permission denied: /Users/douggeorge/Desktop/HFR/Matlabcodes Warning: Executing startup failed in matlabrc. This indicates a potentially serious problem in your MATLAB setup, which should be resolved as soon as possible. Error detected was: MATLAB:recursionLimit Maximum recursion limit of 500 reached."
Then when I try to set the path again to my original setup, I get the attached image when I try to save the new path. I've removed 2012a entirely from my Mac and have restarted. Any guidance or suggestions? Thank you.

What about trying, what is suggested in the dialog? Save the pathdef-m file in your startup folder. Which one is your startup folder?
The recursion limit problem means, that you call either matlabrc.m or pathdef.m recursively from inside pathdef.m. So check the corresponding code and fix it.
