and be sure to follow the references right through to the stackoverflow page as the discussion there has key information about the handling of CT images, which are more complicated to get the position information from .

You can use the function imref3d
After knowing the world coordinates of your 3-D image, you can you the dicom tag that refers to your pixel dimensions.
info = dicominfo('yourImage.dcm');
vxlDimension = info.PixelSpacing;
vxlThickness = info.SliceThickness;
info.PixelSpacing returns x and y dimensions, so you can you vxlDimension(1) or vxlDimension(2) if they are isotropic voxels.
