'movefile' does not delete source file in Linux system

according to the description of function 'movefile':
if the source file and destination are in the same location, the 'movefile' function will rename the source file to the destination, which means that, if they are in the same folder, the source file should not exist anymore.
This feature works well in Windows system, but in Linux system, it seems that the source fils is still exist, the 'movefile' function create a same file as the sourcefile, but with a different name (destination).
just want know if there is any mistake with my operation, or...if this is due to the different feature between windows and Linux system
Thanks!

Do you have x permission in the source directory in order to be permitted to delete the file at its source?
