Play multiple (DICOM-based) videos in GUI/figure

How can I embed multiple video playback fields in a GUI created with GUIDE? At the moment I use "imshow" and a timer but this gets very slowly if you have 3+ videos running in parallel. Unfortunately, neither "movie" nor "implay" allow embedding. They always open in their own figures. :-(
