How to split the output file into multiple parts

How can I split 5GB output file from MATLAB into 1GB each or smaller but creating multiple files - separating by RECORD NUMBER, or NAME (Alpha sort or Numeric sort). Due to size of file 5GB it makes is difficult to open and view or analyze.

Depends on the type and contents of the file.
