WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF INTERPOLATED DFT?

Does any one any idea about interpolated dft algorithm?

the interpolated dft technique is a technique of estimating the fundamental frequency of a signal when it does not fall exactly at one dft bin but between two of them. By interpolating the largest two or three bin magnutudes you obtain the peak of the DTFT, a better estimate of the fundamental frequency.
