whats the objective of command showImage?

In Image processing, I found using the word showImage. Is it a command in Image processing toolbox. I got this doubt when i come across the link http://courses.washington.edu/matlab2/Lesson_15.html

showImage() is not part of MATLAB. It is provided by the site you were looking at. You can find it in http://courses.washington.edu/matlab2/matlab/
