How to extract data from Matlab fig file to excel?

Hi,
I have a Matlab fig file sent to me from a friend and need to extract the data from the fig file and save the data into Excel spreadsheet.
Can anyone advise me how can does be done?

What data do you want to extract? Axis labels? Image contents?
