I can't input characters in the help browser of MATLAB R2012a

I've installed the MATLAB R2012a on Fedora 16. Everything seems ok except the help browser. I can't input characters in the browsers however I can paste words writen in other places. Where is the problem?

When you click in the search field, do you even see a vertical bar cursor? Sometimes that disappears for me - I figure it's some kind of java bug.
