Matlab vs Java on database access and web apps

Hi all,

I am trying to create a web app able to access MySQL databases to obtain information and then plot that information into the web.

I was planning to use Matlab with the database toolbox to create the algorithm and then the java builder (Matlab builder JA) to compile that algorithm in Java.

My question #1 is: Is this possible?

My question #2 is: Is it going to be more efficient with Java?
