Determining note onsets of a .wav file

I have a .wav file which needs to be analyzed. I want to be able to clearly define the onsets in the file and separate them into windows so i can perform fft on each window. Since I'm new to Matlab I'm kind of struggling with the coding and would appreciate some help.
