how can i read the ASTER data downloaded and placed in my local drive?

I am having ASTER data in tif format with its supporting vat file. My data is located in my local drive of my system. How can i read the ASTER DEM in matlab environment? Because i need to train the Neural networks with that data. Kindly help me out in this regard.
