QR on Upper Hessenberg Matrix

Is the MATLAB QR algorithm clever enough to detect an NxN upper Hessenberg input matrix and compute its QR factorization using Givens rotations in O(N^2) operations rather than the typical O(N^3)? Thanks, Stuart Rogers
