I'm trying to create a plot with a boxplot on one side and a geobasemap on the second. Is this possible?

You can do it easily using subplot.
subplot(1,2,1)
boxplot(randi(100,1,500));
subplot(1,2,2)
tsunamis = readtable('tsunamis.xlsx');
geobubble(tsunamis,'Latitude','Longitude','SizeVariable','MaxHeight')
geobasemap colorterrain
Just for the better appearance
figure
subplot(1,3,1)
boxplot(randi(100,1,500));
subplot(1,3,[2,3])
tsunamis = readtable('tsunamis.xlsx');
geobubble(tsunamis,'Latitude','Longitude','SizeVariable','MaxHeight')
geobasemap colorterrain

I don't have mapping TB to play with but I'd venture tiledlayout would work even better than subplot
