Why are some people credited with a lot of questions that they did not ask, answer or even comment on?

Check if they are MathWorks staff. If they are, then they may have edited the question.
(That's the only situation I've seen so far -- someone who I know for sure had been editing questions.)

I just did an author: search that replied back with some postings that had no apparent connection to the name I searched on. On the other hand, each of the ones I checked had at least one contribution from a user whose email address is hidden, so possibly there is a match on the email address.
Also, since the name displayed for "Community" purposes is not necessarily the same as the registered name, it could be that the search is matching registered names sometimes. Maybe.

Currently if someone edits a question or answer that question or answer will show up on their profile page (only MathWorkers can edit questions and answers--for now).
This is wrong in two ways :-)
First, it makes the list of questions that someone asked inaccurate, as the question indicates. My profile page makes it look like I've asked four questions, when in fact I've asked none but edited four.
Second, the current behavior is confusing because we don't indicate when someone edited a question or answer.
We're working on both problems; thanks for your patience and feedback!

This makes sense. My profile page shows that I've asked many questions as well, even though I haven't. In all cases, I've modified the formatting of the question (making sure that the code block is in monospaced font).
