This article demonstrates how to use Firefly algorithm in shape optimization of a gravity rock wall subjected to Rankine active earth pressure (Figure 1). The design variables are top and bottom width of the wall. The design is to minimize the volume of the wall while maintaining wall stability under lateral earth pressure.
