Accurate R Wave Detection in Electrocardiogram (ECG) SignalsObjective
The primary objective of this project is to develop and implement a robust algorithm for the accurate detection of R waves in ECG signals. This involves preprocessing the ECG data, detecting the R waves, and evaluating the algorithm’s performance using various metrics. The project aims to improve the reliability and efficiency of R wave detection, which is crucial for heart rate monitoring, arrhythmia detection, and overall cardiac health assessment.
Background
The ECG is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that records the electrical activity of the heart. Among its various components, the QRS complex is particularly significant as it represents ventricular depolarization. The R wave, being the most prominent peak in the QRS complex, serves as a critical indicator for several cardiac metrics. Accurate detection of R waves is essential for:
- Determining heart rate.
- Detecting irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias).
- Analyzing heart rate variability (HRV).
- Diagnosing various cardiac conditions.
