Open-Circuit Test of a Three-Phase Transformer – Detailed Explanation
The open-circuit test (also called the no-load test) for a three-phase transformer is used to determine:
  • Core (iron) losses: due to hysteresis and eddy currents
  • Magnetizing current
  • Parameters of the magnetizing branch of the equivalent circuit: Rc (core loss resistance), Xm (magnetizing reactance)
