This tutorial will explain Simulink®’s data type propagation engine at an architectural level. It will be explained how Simulink® engine gives blocks the ability initialize data type choices, accept or reject data type proposals, and propagate additional data type choices. Simulink’s mechanism for attempting to heuristically resolved underspecified situations will be briefly discussed.
Please note: this tutorial is about how Simulink® engine interacts with blocks. It is NOT about detailed type propagation choices of specific blocks. But some simpler block behaviors will be described for illustration.
