MATLAB Tall Arrays in Action

Gabriel Ha, MathWorks

See how MATLAB® makes it easy, convenient, and scalable to import any kind of big data from any file system and use tall arrays to analyze and process that data. There's no need to learn big data programming or out-of-memory techniques -- simply use the same code and syntax you're already used to.

Using publicly available NYC taxi datasets (comprising more than 20 GB of data), this demo shows how easy it is to work with big data using tall arrays and transform a wall of raw numbers into meaningful statistics. Then, we see how tall arrays integrate naturally with graphing and mapping tools in MATLAB.

All of this accessing and processing of data can be done entirely within MATLAB, no matter where it might be stored, including SQL/NoSQL databases, Spark™, and/or Hadoop®.
