Get License File and File Installation Key
R2026bYour license file contains information about the products and releases you are entitled to use. A File Installation Key is a numeric code that the product installer uses to determine which products to install based on your license. To obtain the license file and File Installation Key, go to the License Center and activate the software that you plan to install.
Check for Activation Permissions
Some licenses allow only administrators to activate software. To check if your license allows you to activate software:
Sign in to the License Center and select your license.
Look for the Install and Activate tab. If you do not see this tab, then you do not have permission to activate software. Contact your license administrator to have them activate the software. To find your license administrator, see the Contact Administrator(s) tab.
Activate to Retrieve License File and File Installation Key
Choose one of these activation options:
Activate the software on a computer with no previous activations of that software. See New Activations.
Select an existing computer activation. See Existing Activations.
New Activations
Sign in to the License Center and select your license.
On the Install and Activate tab, choose the activation option you see:
If you see a list of previously activated computers, click Activate a Computer.
If you see a box with the title Install and Activate Software on a Computer, followed by a Download Installer button, click Activate to Retrieve License File to the right of the box.
If you see an Install and Activate box with a Get Started button, click Resolve a connection issue to the right of the box, and then click Activate to Retrieve License File. This option is available only for individual licenses on older releases of MATLAB®.
Enter the requested details:
Software Release — Select the release you are installing. (This option is not available for all licenses.)
Operating System — Select the operating system of your computer.
Host ID — Enter the MAC address of your computer as the host ID. For help finding your computer's MAC address, see How do I find my host ID?
Computer Login Name — Enter the username that you use to log in to your computer. For help finding your username, see How do I find my username?
Computer Label — Optionally provide a label so you can identify your computer later.
After you enter the requested details, click Continue.
When the License Center asks if the software is installed, select No, and then click Continue.
To download the license file to your computer, click Download License File.
In the File Installation Key section, copy the File Installation Key to your clipboard or save it to a file. This section does not appear for earlier releases of certain licenses. For help obtaining a File Installation Key in these cases, see this support article.
You can now use the downloaded license file and the copied File Installation Key to complete your installation. During the installation process, when prompted, upload the license file and enter the File Installation Key.
Existing Activations
Sign in to the License Center and select your license.
Click the Install and Activate tab.
From the Activated Computers list, in the Get License File column, click the blue download arrow
for your existing activation.From the activation page, select a software release. Click Continue.
To download the license file to your computer, click Download License File.
In the File Installation Key section, copy the File Installation Key to your clipboard or save it to a file. This section does not appear for earlier releases of certain licenses. For help obtaining a File Installation Key in these cases, see this support article.
You can now use the downloaded license file and the copied File Installation Key to complete your installation. During the installation process, when prompted, upload the license file and enter the File Installation Key.
