How to divide an image into blocks?

I am new to MATLAB.
I am trying to write code which will divide the image in nonoverlaping blocks of size 5*5. I am supposed to do operations on specific blocks like getting the value of the center pixel of block and count the number of black and white pixels in each block.
Thanks in advance!

See the FAQ for a couple of different methods: http://matlab.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#How_do_I_split_an_image_into_non-overlapping_blocks.3F

There is already an excellent answer from excellent Mathworks answers, may be useful:

1. Read the image. 2. Image is divided in to sub-blocks of size M x N 3. For each sub block, standard deviation is calculated to increase intensity of image object. 4. Global threshold is applied for each sub block which has standard deviation as greater than one. 5. The above process is repeated for each and every sub block of entire image.
i need this ..can u please help me out..

See my attached demos that can do that, with very small modifications.
